MAN NL263/R single-deck bus in Hong Kong In 2000, the Germany made MAN Nutzfahrzeuge AG (MAN) developed a new Ultra-low-floor omnibus and modeled as NL263, and is replacing the old model NL262. During the past few years, totally 85 NL262/R, which is the right-hand-drive version of NL262, are being acquired by the Hong Kong operators. In September 2001, a new batch of NL263/R had been introduced to Hong Kong. The all-new NL263/R supplied to Hong Kong in 2001 are all belonged to New Hong Kong Co. Ltd. and Discovery Bay Transit. Totally two of them are acquired from Discovery Bay Transit while the New Hong Kong Co. Ltd., which served on the Lok Ma Chau cross-border route, purchased ten NL263/R. The MAN NL263/R single-deck bus powered with MAN D2866LUH-23 engine which fulfills the Euro-III standard. The maximum power output is 260bhp. Transmitted with Voith DIWA-854.3 gearbox, it provided 4-speed fully-automatic transmission. Although those NL263 in Hong Kong are all in the same technical specification, however, there are some minor differences on the bodywork. Those NL263/R are fitted with MAN / Caetano bodywork. For the Discovery Bay Transit's NL263/R, the bus fitted with only one doorway for both entrance and exit. Installed with 36seats, the overall passenger capacity is 64. On the other hand, for those owned by New Hong Kong Co. Ltd., the bus fitted with two doorways for separate entrance and exit. The passenger capacity allowed can be upto 81 as there are only 21 seats installed. In 2002, the Discovery Bay Transit acquired another batch of NL263/R for servicing Discovery Bay. Both single doorway and dual doorways are introduced. A number of them have been delivered to Discovery Bay at the end of August 2002.
