New Buses in Tuen Mun Bus Body Construction Depot
In recent years, the Kowloon Motor Bus have tried different ways to acquire new bus fleets. One is the bus-manufacturer built the chassis together with its body at the same time, i.e. the Neoplan Centroliner, or sent the chassis to another body-builder company to assembly the bodywork, i.e. the MAN 24.310HOCL-N, and then deliver the whole bus to Hong Kong. The another one, also the most popular one, is to deliver the bus chassis and the bodywork in CKD-form separately to Hong Kong and then assembled the new bus inside its depot. That is well-known as Tuen Mun Bus Body Construction Depot (BBCD).
Since 1980's, the Tuen Mun Bus Body Construction Depot have been responsible for assembling new buses for Kowloon Motor Bus itself. Actually the assembly work is assigned to a company called Goodview Engineering Limited and worked inside the BBCD. During these 20 years, it has been assembled a number of bus type. Such as Leyland Victory Mk.II, Dennis Jubliant, Dennis Dragon, Leyland Olympian, Dennis Lance, Scania N113DRB, Volvo Olympian, Volvo Super Olympian, etc.
However, as mentioned above, for the buses like Neoplan Centroliner and MAN 24.310HOCL-N/R, which is imported as a whole, will also need to have some final maintenance in the Tuen Mun Bus Body Construction Depot. So the BBCD plays an important role in the operations of KMB.
