KMB Daimler CVG5 ( D )
In 1949, the Kowloon Motor Bus started to introduce double-deck fleets to Hong Kong. That are the Daimler CVG5, usually called as Daimler A. The type CVG5 stands for Commercial Victory Gardner 5-cylinder. The Daimler A has an overall length of 26-feet and 16-feet with 4-inch for the wheelbase length. That is the standard specification for the Daimler CVG5 chassis initially developed.
The first batch of Daimler A only fitted with one doorway for both entrance and exit. After that, the Kowloon Motor Bus introduced a front-entrance into the bus and modified the design of the rear-doorway. This sliding-gate design being the standard in 1950's and 1960's.
During the period from 1949 to 1953, totally 125 Daimler A were being acquired. Afterward, in 1954 to 1957, a further 90 Daimler A were being introduced. Some changes were made on the buses, such as using the Birmingham-style front-mould bonnet design.
All the Daimler A had been retired on 1983 and only 2 of them are being preserved as Classic Buses, which are the 4961 (D26) preserved by the Kowloon Motor Bus and the 4212 (D11) preserved by the Speedy Bus. Recently, the 4212 (D11) is being acquired by the New World First Bus and the NWFB is now trying to convert the bus back to the original look.
