KMB Dennis Dragon 11metres 3-axle ( S3N ) Since December 1986, the Kowloon Motor Bus started to acquire Dennis Dragon 11-metre non-air-con fleets. Totally 370 Dragons 11-metre were being introduced until 1994. All over those 370 Dragons, they are all divided into 9 different specifications. In December 1986, KMB introduced the first batch of 50 Dennis Dragon 11-metre (DDA-1801) to Hong Kong and fleeted as S3N1 - S3N50. Similar to those 12-metre version previously acquired, these 50 Dragons are powered with Gardner 6LXCT engine and transmitted by Voith DIWA-851 3-Speed fully-automatic gearbox. Maximum power output can upto 220bhp @ 1,900rpm. Total passenger capacity allowance can also reach to 151. Immediately after that, another 5 Dragons (S3N51 - S3N55, DDA-1802), which were installed with Cummins LT10 engine and Voith DIWA-863, 3-Speed fully-automatic gearbox, were put into services. As the engine can perform 245bhp high power, by compare with the Gardner 6LXCT engine, these 5 Dragons were arranged to serve in the Tseung Kwan O area. Afterward, the next 165 Dragons (S3N56 - S3N220) (DDA-1803, DDA-1805) being acquired were all in the same technical specification of Gardner 6LXCT engine and Voith DIWA-851 gearbox. However, These 2 batches of Duple Metsec bodywork are all in different passenger capacity allowance. With the same seating allowance on the upper-deck, the 3rd batch (DDA-1803) of 85 Dragons allows 39 seatings on the lower-deck with 31 standees, while the 4th batch (DDA-1805) of 80 Dragons increased both allowance to 41 and 33 respectively. In between December 1990 and August 1994, KMB changed to use Voith DIWA-863 3-Speed fully automatic gearbox as a standard to acquire remaining 150 Dragons. On the 5th batch Dragon 11-metre (S3N221 - S3N270, DDA-1808), the model of engine also changed to use Cummins LT10 with maximum power output of 245bhp @ 1,900rpm. The Duple Metsec bodywork are also being modified with regular-sized windows. Maximum passenger capacity is U69 / L41 + S33. After that, the next two batches (DDA-1815, DDA-1816) are in different specifications. One is fitted with Gardner LG1200 engine and Voith DIWA-863 gearbox, while the another one is Cummins LT10 engine with ZF 4HP500 4-Speed fully automatic gearbox. The rear part of the Duple Metsec bodywork used in these batches is being covered similar to a air-con bus in the lower-deck. The passenger capacity decreased to 137. Finally, for the S3N320 - S3N369, batch coded as DDA-1818. These 50 Dragons 11-metre were installed with Cummins LTA10 engines and Voith DIWA-863 gearbox. Maximum power output can reach to 260bhp. The Duple bodywork can arrange U67 / L41 + S35 passenger capacity.
