KMB Volvo Olympian 11.3metres ( AV ) Since the Autumn 1993, before the introduction of Volvo Super Olympian to Hong Kong in 1999, the Kowloon Motor Bus totally acquired 531 Volvo Olympian 11.3metres for the services in Hong Kong during the six years. In Autumn 1993, the first Volvo Olympian delivered to the Kowloon Motor Bus. That is the first Olympian produced with the Volvo brand name after the acquisition of Volvo on the Leyland's bus-division. The Volvo Olympian modified the parts and the layout of the Olympian chassis, but retained the mid-axle assisted steering system in the chassis. The Volvo Olympian 11.3metres later registered as FW5572 in January 1994. That began the serving life of Volvo Olympian in KMB. As the Olympian gives a great performance, the KMB then acquired certain batches of Volvo Olympian into its fleets. The 531 Volvo Olympian 11.3metres are powered by 3 types of engines onto the chassis. That includes the Volvo THD102KF, the Cummins LT10, and also the Volvo DH10A. All of them have a 10-litre cylinder capacity and can perform a maximum power output with a range of 230bhp to 245bhp. On the other hand, the Olympians are equipped with ZF-Ecomat 4HP500 4-speed fully automatic gearbox or Voith DIWA-853.3 3-speed fully automatic gearbox. After the introduction of Volvo Super Olympian in 1999, the production line of Volvo Olympian had been terminated. The design of Super Olympian is based on the Olympian chassis and can fulfills the new standard of Ultra-low-floor in Hong Kong.
