KCRC Dennis Trident 11.3metres ( #601 - #622 )
To match up the development of the north-west district, the Kowloon-Canton Railway Corporation designed to operate a new railway system called KCRC West-Rail. On the other side, KCRC have made an order of 22 Dennis Trident 11.3metres in 1999 so as to provide a number of shuttle bus routes on between the railway station.
The delivery of the new buses started from the mid of 2000, all the Trident have been assembled with the modified version of Walter Alexander ALX500 bodywork in UK Alexander Scotland Plant before deliver to Hong Kong. After the assembly of the bodywork, the KCRC standard livery of red-white-blue color are being painted on the body.
The 22 Tridents have been started to deliver to Hong Kong since July 13, 2000. The KCRC arranged the #601-#622 as the fleet numbers for them. After performed several tests by the Transport Department, some of the Trident started its services on Tin Shui Wai shuttle bus routes on the mid of September 2000. Inside the saloon, the layout is similar to those Volvo Super Olympian in HK. Installed with 83 Lazzarini seats, together with 37 standees, the maximum legal passenger allowance is 120. And there is a region reserved for parking a wheel-chair, that is located behind the staircase in the right-hand side.
As same as to those Trident in Hong Kong, those KCRC Dennis Trident 11.3m are installed with Cummins M11-305E engine which fulfills the Euro II standard. But the KCRC chose the Voith DIWA864.3 gearbox for transmission instead of the most popular Voith DIWA863.3 or ZP 4HP500. It seems that the performance of these Tridents is quite good and suitable for using in Hong Kong.
